CANSO Latin America and Caribbean Conference 2022
The CANSO Latin America and Caribbean Conference 2022 was held on 6 to 8 December at the B Resort & Spa in Disney Springs Resort Area, in Orlando, Florida, USA.
The CANSO Latin America and Caribbean Conference is an annual event at which we discussed the opportunities, ATM developments and challenges in our region. The conference featured level panel discussions, interactive sessions and workshops. Attracting over 120 key industry players from across the Latin America and Caribbean region, CANSO Members could use the conference to make new connections and build their network.

An introduction to the CANSO Latin America and Caribbean Conference 2022
Air navigation service providers (ANSPs) in the Latin America and Caribbean region are practising new management techniques, acquiring new technologies, implementing procedures, and restructuring airspace to enhance efficiency, improve operational safety, and support and coordinate air traffic growth. A regional partnership between ANSPs, airlines, civil aviation authorities and international organisations showed that great collaboration and close coordination were essential to reaching the objective. The teamwork created positive and tangible results, and six direct route trials saved an estimated US$1.2M of operational cost to airlines and 3M Kg CO2 reduction. The publication of the routes will follow in the months to come.
This is one example of many at a regional level, and we learned that the regional partnership is the base to cope with the changes successfully and provide concrete and cost-effective solutions to the aviation community.
The CANSO Latin America and Caribbean Conference 2022 explored the actions of ANSPs in maintaining high levels of safety, the technologies supporting air traffic management, and airspace and airport capacity. Looking to the near future, we discussed a wide range of issues, and asked how the Latin America and Caribbean region can benefit and embrace the Complete Air Traffic System (CATS) Global Council’s vision for the skies of 2045.
CANSO also organised a terminal control redesign workshop for senior management on the second day of the conference. With the increase in air traffic operations, the workshop was designed for senior management to understand the different designs and requirements they must consider when making such a significant change.
