CANSO Global ATM Summit 2024 programme taking shape

23/04/2024

As the world’s air traffic management leaders prepare to gather in Baku, Azerbaijan, for the CANSO Global ATM Summit 2024 and 28th AGM, the draft programme for the Summit has been published, and the need to maximise aviation’s contribution to cutting carbon emissions is at the heart of the discussion.

Simon Hocquard, CANSO Director General, said: “The world’s eyes will be on Baku later this year, when world leaders gather in the city for COP29.

“Climate change is one of humanity’s most pressing issues and aviation has a key role to play in cutting carbon emissions. With our 2050 net zero target only a few decades away, it is imperative that greater focus is placed on meeting that key aviation climate goal. That’s why it will be the core theme for CANSO’s Global ATM Summit and AGM in Baku, kindly hosted by AZANS, and sponsored by Indra and Jotron AS.”

While the last remaining speakers are being confirmed, the Summit programme will feature a keynote speeches from leaders across the aviation industry, followed by a series of in-depth panel discussions. These will look at:

  • Aviation’s pathway to net zero – A discussion on the challenges of meeting aviation’s 2050 goal, and opportunities to collaborate to fast-track progress
  • A chance for delegate to highlight what their organisations are doing to help meet aviation’s net zero goal.
  • Contrails – the science behind them and mitigating measures
  • Technology as an enabler to greener skies

Simon added: “We’ll be issuing more information about the Summit Programme and our AGM soon but in the meantime I would urge those who are interested in the future of our industry to come to beautiful Baku to help us contribute to reducing carbon across aviation. We don’t have a choice not to do that, and events like our Global ATM Summit are a way of making that happen.”

As well as taking part in the CANSO Global ATM Summit 2024, senior leaders from CANSO’s Members are also encouraged to attend the CANSO’s 28th AGM on Thursday 13 June. There they will have their say on how CANSO is run and make the important decisions which shape its future.

And alongside all of that, AZANS has also laid on a comprehensive social programme for delegates and their partners, including full tours of the areas, a Welcome Reception in Baku’s Old City, a stunning Gala Dinner and, for the first time, a Closing Dinner too.
