FREQUENTIS USA completes production of 15,000 APC communication gateways under the U.S. Department of Transportation’s $12.5 Billion BNATCS Programme

Frequentis has completed production of the 15,000th Air-to-Ground Protocol Converter (APC) for the DOT’s Brand-New Air Traffic Control System (BNATCS) modernisation programme. The APC enables FAA (Federal Aviation Administration) to safely migrate radios and Voice communication system (VCS) to modern IP-based systems.

Frequentis USA was awarded the APC contract in 2024 as part of Phase One of the FAA’s Voice over IP Communication Enterprise (VoICE) Program. VoICE is a modernisation effort to replace aging air traffic control voice systems with advanced, networked Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) technologies, improving safety, reliability, and operational flexibility across the National Airspace System. The programme scope includes both APC deployments and subsequent voice switch deliveries.

The production of 15,000 APC units represents a major milestone of the FAA’s VoICE programme.
