Naviair and Copenhagen Airports go live with Insero AviCast (ATIS/D-ATIS/VOLMET) system

20/12/2022

Naviair, the Danish Air Navigation Service Provider (ANSP), has replaced their ATIS/VOLMET system with the new AviCast solution from Insero Air Traffic Solutions, with only eight months from the contract award to being fully operational.

Naviair sought a modern and flexible ATIS/VOLMET system, including a trusted partner that could rapidly and seamlessly integrate this new solution into the existing system environment at Copenhagen and Roskilde Airports. This partly due to requirements from ICAO, who mandated the implementation of the Global Reporting Format (GRF) for runway surface conditions into all ATIS/VOLMET solutions.

To meet the requirements of the new Naviair ATIS-VOLMET Solution (NAVOS), Naviair awarded the contract to Insero Air Traffic Solutions. And during the following eight months, Insero worked closely with Naviair and implemented Insero AviCast following a firm procedure that ensured all quality processes from development through commissioning and acceptance tests.

Insero AviCast was commissioned eight months after the contract award at Copenhagen Airport Kastrup, and Site Acceptance Test for Roskilde Airport was accepted in early December 2022, well before the start of the 2022 winter season. This included integration to the ARINC and SITA datalink service providers and a range of other internal systems, training, documentation, and all safety approvals.

I would like to thank the entire Insero team involved in the ATIS VOLMET project. You have met the challenges of the project professionally and competently and were a significant factor in our ability to commission the system, free of defects and to our satisfaction, in such a short time,” says David Ryther, Senior Project Manager, ATM Projects & Engineering.

Naviair is very satisfied with both the flexibility shown, and the products and services delivered, by Insero in the projects which Naviair and Insero have executed together. Not only in the latest ATIS-VOLMET project but also in other previous projects, for example Naviair’s Remote Tower Services project, in which Insero’s AviSky product forms a portion of the solution. The efficient and pragmatic cooperation which Naviair has experienced over the years has been an important parameter in selecting Insero as a supplier for Naviair’s new ATIS-VOLMET systems,” says Frank Knudsen Christensen, Manager of Project Planning & Execution, Naviair.

Next generation in broadcasting solutions

Insero AviCast is the latest generation of Insero broadcasting solutions, building on years of experience and operational use, yet based on modern service-oriented server architecture and secure browser-based web applications.

Based on the configuration, the ATIS and/or VOLMET flight weather broadcasts can be transmitted as either radio-transmitted ATIS and/or Datalink ATIS (D-ATIS), and similarly for VOLMET broadcasts.

We are delighted with the successful conclusion of the Insero AviCast project for Naviair and the implementations for both Copenhagen and Roskilde Airports. Given the compressed schedule, this would not have been possible without all parties’ professional support and cooperation. The positive feedback from end-users and technical staff about the provided Insero AviCast solution makes us especially happy since these people will work with the implemented solution every day,” says Michael H. Tandrup, CEO at Insero Air Traffic Solutions.
