Hosted StarCaster D-ATIS system installed in Rwanda
STR-SpeechTech Ltd. (STR) has completed the delivery, installation and commissioning of a complex D-ATIS system in Rwanda for Rwanda Airports Company (RAC).
Using a hosted configuration, the StarCaster D-ATIS system provides an Automatic Terminal Information Service (ATIS) for both Kamembe International Airport (HRZA) and Kigali International Airport (HRYR).
Current weather data are automatically accessed from automated weather sources, and the ATIS messages are transferred to local VHF transmitters in ED-137B compliant VoIP format. The StarCaster VoIP interface reduces costs and a potential point of failure by eliminating the need for converters that interface with analog transmitters. For Kigali, the system also automatically generates and transmits D-ATIS text messages to aircraft via ARINC’s Data Link Network. STR will provide support to the system as part of our warranty
program.
The installation also deploys the first female voice for ATIS broadcasts in Africa, using STR’s proprietary text-to-speech technology.
“STR is proud to have successfully deployed our StarCaster D-ATIS hosted system in Rwanda,” said Craig Dickson (President and CEO of STR-SpeechTech Ltd). “Given the current COVID-19 global challenges, deployment of our D-ATIS technical solution in Rwanda has been made possible by the strong relationships that exist with our project partners Joh. Achelis & Söhne GmbH and RAC. We would like to express our appreciation for their project support, which allowed us to safely complete the installations in Kamembe and Kigali.”
