Simon Hocquard, CANSO’s Director General, has been named Executive Director of the Year in the annual Association of Association Executives’ International and European Association Awards.

Simon was recognised for his leadership of CANSO through the COVID-19 crisis and the role the organisation played in advocating for air traffic management. He was also commended for his work in forging CANSO’s new direction and brand, and his role in creating the Complete Air Traffic System’s Global Council and its vision for the skies of 2045.

The judges said: “He managed to keep the lights on in an organisation badly affected by the pandemic. He pivoted a new course during this period which should allow the organisation to flourish in the future. Simon did a remarkable job as a leader and innovator, demonstrating clear purpose and deliver great value to the community.”

Simon added: “What an honour to end a challenging and difficult year on. I was thrilled to receive this award, and accept it not just for me but also for all the entire CANSO team who have worked tirelessly this year – to all of whom I am extremely grateful. This award really recognises their continued support, commitment and passion for our industry. As we now turn our attention to 2022, I wish us all a successful and prosperous new year.”
