Avians: New name, same mission for Iceland’s air navigation services

30/04/2026

Iceland’s air navigation service provider, formerly known as Isavia ANS, now operates under a new name: Avians. The change reflects a clearer and more distinct identity, while the company’s role, services and responsibilities remain unchanged.

Avians continues to manage one of the world’s largest and strategically important airspaces, ensuring the safe and efficient flow of traffic across the North Atlantic between Europe, Asia and North America.

The decision to adopt a new name follows structural changes within the Isavia group, where air navigation services and airport operations were separated several years ago. While this strengthened the organisation operationally, the previous naming created some external ambiguity. The new name, Avians, is designed to stand independently and more clearly represent the company’s core activity.

Beyond external clarity, the rebranding also supports internal alignment. Delivering air navigation services relies on close coordination between highly specialised teams, including air traffic controllers, engineers and operational support staff. Strengthening a shared identity and vision across these groups is seen as an important step in supporting collaboration and maintaining high performance.

The name Avians was selected through a process that involved employee input, reinforcing a sense of ownership across the company. This internal engagement is considered a key factor in ensuring that the new identity is meaningful and sustainable over time.

The new visual identity reflects the dynamic nature of air traffic flows and the company’s role in managing complex movements across the North Atlantic. While evolving, Avians remains firmly focused on its core mission: providing safe, efficient and reliable air navigation services.

Looking ahead, Avians will continue to play an active role in international cooperation and industry development, while adapting to increasing traffic and ongoing technological change in the aviation sector.

The new identity will be introduced to the wider aviation community at Airspace World in Lisbon in May.
