ENAIRE commissions new next-generation 3D radar at Randa (Mallorca)

05/06/2026

ENAIRE, Spain’s national air navigation service provider, has brought into service the first 3D primary radar in the Balearic archipelago—a key new piece of aviation safety infrastructure. Located at the Randa station in Mallorca, the radar is the third of its kind installed in Spain and represents a major step forward in air traffic management, pinpointing aircraft position through three-dimensional scanning with high precision.

The new radar has a coverage of up to 120 nautical miles (approximately 220 km), extending the range of its predecessor, and strengthens air surveillance in an area of high flight density, improving safety both on the ground and in the air.

The 3D radar collects and processes data in real time to deliver a clear picture of the airspace even in complex environments, detecting aircraft in the presence of wind farms through its 3D technology.
