Webinar looks at outsourcing ATM data services

16/12/2020

Earlier this week (14 December), CANSO and Egis held a joint webinar on ā€˜Outsourcing ATM data services ā€“ the business case for changeā€™.  The webinar was led by Alex Bristol, Chief Executive Officer at skyguide and CANSO Executive Committee member, and Ben Stanley, Director at Helios (an Egis company) who informed the audience that ATM digital transformation is already underway amongst ANSPs and highlighted that outsourcing of data is essential for the realisation of the ATM Data Service Provider (ADSP) concept.

The ADSP concept is included in the revised SES2 proposal and is a stepping-stone towards realising the virtual de-fragmentation of European skies, and ultimately developing a more sustainable and competitive aviation industry.

The webinar included experienced speakers from DSNA, ENAV, PANSA and Helios who shared their experiences, how they made a case for change, and discussed how the outsourcing of data will likely improve cost-efficiency through a service-based environment and resilience through digitalisation and virtualisation of services. Michiel van Dorst (CEO, LVNL) then challenged the audience to move beyond our historical perspectives, and see the opportunities created by outsourcing.

The webinar also served to map the move towards outsourced services, including the building blocks essential for creating ADSPs, with plenty of questions and debate as the panellists explored how they have addressed key issues such as data access, service descriptions, and the use of Service Level Agreement.
