Updated SOE in Human Performance Management
Six years after its initial launch, in February 2025 the CANSO Standard of Excellence in Human Performance Management (HPM SoE) has been updated and re-released to better support organisations in leveraging their deployment and understanding of how human performance is managed. This revision introduces clearer definitions, refined methodology, and enhanced guidance tailored to the evolving needs of Air Navigation Service Providers (ANSPs).The CANSO Human Performance Management Workgroup identified the need for this update through an extensive survey, aiming to bridge existing gaps and provide a more comprehensive, actionable framework for ANSPs.
The revised guidance material now includes:
- Clearly defined terminology to ensure consistency and ease of application.
- A dedicated annex to help ANSPs identify key roles and profiles that contribute to higher maturity levels.
- Intuitive visual aids, including the “Human Performance Pyramid,” designed to enhance understanding and practical application of human performance principles.
- A published controlled set of assessment questions available on the CANSO website for ANSPs to use to begin their maturity studies.
This update is an essential resource for any organisation seeking to deepen its understanding of human performance and its critical role in operational excellence. The workgroup will focus this year on assisting ANSPs beginning maturity assessments.
