GNSS Spoofing and Jamming

When

Thursday 27 March

12:05 - 12:30

Session overview

Incidents of Global Positioning System/Global Navigation Satellite System (GPS/GNSS) jamming and spoofing have increased dramatically in the past few years and are expected to continue increasing in the future, and it is important for ANSPs to be aware of the increasing risk to aviation and to develop procedures to follow in the event of GNSS interference. The issue has been raised at recent ICAO conference, and CANSO desires to “lean into” this threat to help develop mitigations.

Session Objectives:
• Importance of awareness of GNSS threats
• Types and examples of interference that are occurring
• Areas where there are high incidents of GNSS, but it is increasing in areas that are outside conflict areas, as well
• Preparation for GNSS events: need for procedures and processes to follow in the event of GNSS anomalies
• Road ahead: CANSO work to begin soon – soliciting participation
