Session overview
Overview:
Runway incursions remain one of the most persistent and high risk threats to safe airport operations worldwide. In this fireside chat, experts will dive into how the Global Action Plan for the Prevention of Runway Incursions (GAPPRI) is being put into practice, drawing on real-world examples from Air Navigation Service Providers (ANSPs).
The discussion will also spotlight the critical role of runway safety teams in continuously monitoring, assessing, and improving safety performance at airports. To further strengthen these efforts, CANSO—working closely with ACI—has developed the Runway Safety Checklist, a practical and structured tool designed to help teams identify gaps, drive collaboration, and enhance runway safety outcomes.
This session offers a candid exchange of experiences, lessons learned, and practical guidance for turning safety frameworks into daily operational reality.
Session Objectives:
• Share real-life examples of GAPPRI implementation across ANSPs
• Explore the evolving role and responsibilities of runway safety teams
• Introduce and demonstrate the value of the Runway Safety Checklist as a proactive safety tool
