New Q&A series looks at how European ANSPs are gearing up for a busy summer

18/06/2025

This summer, Europe’s skies will be as busy as ever, with traffic approaching 2019 levels or, in some States, surpassing them. As detailed in a recent CANSO press release, ANSPs across the continent are working on a variety of measures to prepare for and meet the challenges summer brings. These include:

  • Optimisation of sectors
  • Improved rostering
  • Adverse weather management procedures
  • Enhanced collaboration with all the key players in aviation

To find out more about how CANSO Members are preparing, Johnny Pring, CANSO’s Manager Europe Policy and Advocacy, has conducted a series of short interviews with Chief Operating Officers (COO) from all over Europe, which will be published over the summer.

You can read the first one, with Gábor Menráth, Deputy CEO, Chief Operations Officer at HungaroControl here.

Johnny said: “We approached a number of COOs to ask them describe the measures that they have put in place to minimise delays and disruptions, whether technical, procedural or staffing or through cooperation with airlines, airports and the Network Manager.

“As we share them regularly through the Summer, we hope that CANSO Members and the wider aviation community will gain insight into the challenges European ANSPs face, learn from each other, and ultimately manage the busiest flying time of the year.”

The first interview is here. Check the CANSO Europe page regularly for new interviews, which will also be published in ATM News.
