Infina launches new training courses for Spanish speaking Air Traffic Controllers

01/12/2023

The partnership between Infina and CANSO to provide refresher training for Air Traffic Controllers (ATCOs) around the world is now reaching Latin American and the Caribbean (LAC) following the launch of eight new Spanish language courses.

The microlearning courses give those ATCOs, their managers and supervisors in the region, and Spanish speakers globally, a range of courses covering air traffic control best practices and a clear understanding of the ATC concepts and protocols increasing safety. All the courses are now available on the ANSP Learning Portal (ALP).

The new courses provide a familiar environment in which the employees of LAC ANSPs can learn, eliminating the stress of having to move to new training environments and thus making the ATC courses more effective and add to the ALP’s comprehensive library of ATC courses available in Spanish.

Talking about Infina’s continued engagement with the international marketplace, the company’s President, Sue E. Meeks, said: “I am thrilled to see these new courses rolled out in the LAC region.

“Anyone who cares about air traffic control safety will love these microlearning courses. We work hard to give our subscribers the highest quality courseware based on ICAO topics so their workforce performs well and they are compliant.”

The eight new Spanish courses are:

Communication Series

Escucha Activa (Active Listening)

This course covers the difficulties pilots face when controllers string together too many instructions and suggests ways for controllers to mitigate those difficulties for pilots.

Students will:

  • Define active listening
  • Identify the risks of failing to use active listening
  • Identify ways to improve active listening

Agrupación de Transmisiones (Chunking Transmissions)

This course covers the difficulties pilots face when controllers string together too many instructions and suggests ways for controllers to mitigate those difficulties for pilots.

Students will:

  • Identify the risks of long and complex instructions to pilot
  • Identify ways to mitigate the risk of long and complex instructions
  • Identify techniques for chunking transmissions

Comunicación Oportuna (Communicating Timing)

This course covers the busiest times for pilots. It suggests that controllers keep these times in mind when issuing instructions.

Students will:

  • Identify the worst times to issue control instructions

Comunicación Efectiva (Over-Communicating)

This course covers the busiest times for pilots and helps controllers keep these times in mind when issuing instructions.

Students will:

  • Identify better ways to better communicate with pilots

Weather Series

Microrráfagas (Microbursts)

The course covers the characteristics of microbursts and how they affect aircraft in flight.

Students will:

  • Identify how microbursts are caused
  • Identify the dangers of microbursts
  • Identify best practices to help pilots avoid and escape microbursts

Clima Severo (Severe Weather)

This course covers the limitations of onboard weather information and the risks pilots face in severe weather. It suggests ways for controllers to keep pilots better informed about severe weather.

Students will:

  • Identify the risks of severe weather
  • Identify a passive weather system
  • Identify active weather radar
  • Identify when to solicit and disseminate PIREPs

Tormentas Eléctricas (Thunderstorms)

This course covers the characteristics of thunderstorms and how they affect aircraft in flight.

Students will:

  • Identify how thunderstorms are caused
  • Identify the life cycle of thunderstorms
  • Identify the dangers of thunderstorms
  • Identify best practices to help pilots avoid thunderstorms

Emergencies Series

Ceniza Volcánica (Volcanic Ash)

This course covers the characteristics of volcanic ash and how it affects aircraft in flight.

Students will

  • Identify how to locate volcanic ash
  • Identify the dangers of volcanic ash
  • Identify best practices to help pilots avoid and escape volcanic ash

The ALP has been developed by Infina in partnership with CANSO to provide ATC training globally, and especially to those ANSPs who may not have access to large training departments. Subscription to the portal gives ANSPs:

  • High-quality, microlearning specifically for ANSPs
  • ICAO refresher training topics for staff
  • New courses developed each year
  • The quickest way for ANSPs to access a training department with great cost savings and courses available immediately
  • Courses delivered by safety and aviation professionals
