Indra optimises ground surveillance at Canadian airports

07/09/2021

  • Indra has been awarded a contract for the delivery of ground surveillance systems at five airports to air navigation service provider NAV CANADA
  • The systems will provide air traffic controllers with an optimised overview of the ground traffic, and include runway incursion alert functionality to enhance their situational awareness
  • Indra has contributed to nationwide flight safety in Canada for more than 20 years, having delivered more than 120 landing systems and 9 surface movement systems across the country

Through this contract, Indra will install its InNOVA ground surveillance system at Ottawa, Quebec, Winnipeg, Halifax and St. John’s airports in Canada. A similar system will also be used for training purposes at NAV CANADA’s training facility, the NAV CENTRE, in Cornwall, Ontario. Additionally, a duplicate will be installed at their Technical Services facility (TSC), in Ottawa, Ontario, allowing NAV CANADA’s technical experts to test, validate and provide user support across the nation from a centralized location.

The delivery includes the installation of a Runway Incursion Monitoring and Conflict Alerting System (RIMCAS). This system improves ground safety and is documented to have avoided incidents at other airports around the world. With the new ground surveillance system, NAV CANADA gets the flexibility of adding advanced and automated functionalities to meet future needs.

“The contract continues a successful relationship with Indra who we have worked with for more than 20 years. Throughout this relationship their support and ability to adjust to our needs has been excellent, their solutions are very reliable and are adapted to meet our needs.”, says Warren Gosselin, Director CNS Solutions, NAV CANADA.

Indra was honored with NAV CANADA’s Supplier Excellence Award 14 times between 2000 and 2016.
