The increased digitalisation and interconnectivity of air traffic management systems allow access to a wide range of technological solutions that will enhance safety and boost our industry generally.
Datalink, through its varied applications like as Controller-pilot datalink communications (CPDLC), employs preformatted, standardised messages corresponding to the standard phraseology used in radiotelephony in the provision of Air Traffic Services (ATS).
The International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) recommends the application as one of the enabling technologies for future air traffic management concepts.
It provides greater automation and management of communications and brings other benefits, including the reduction of congestion in voice channels, greater availability and coverage for aeronautical communications, reduced misunderstandings in communications during the ATS provision, and decreased air workload for traffic controllers and pilots.
CANSO has teamed up with SITA to bring you a two-part webinar aimed at sharing successful datalink cases, benefits, and efficient tower solutions including controller-pilot datalink communications (CPDLC), departure clearance service (DCL), digital-automatic terminal information service (D-ATIS), electronic flights strips (EFS), and Datalink.
This first webinar looked at Datalink for CPDLC Oceanic and Domestic and its benefits. DECEA, and others shared their experience related to CPDLC programmes and results.
Key topics included:
- Datalink benefits
- Case studies and best practice sharing
- International requirements
- Harmonised datalink implementation
