Airways International Ltd, part of Airways New Zealand, and US-based The MITRE Corporation have extended their partnership agreement to further explore collaboration opportunities to support the future development of the Asia Pacific aviation sector.

An MoU was first established between the two organisations in 2018. Since establishing this partnership, Airways International and MITRE have successfully delivered a complex multi-runway airspace and instrument flight procedure (IFP) solution for a major airport customer in Asia, which is now moving into the implementation phase. MITRE has also provided valuable technical expertise to support Airways New Zealand’s airspace optimisation project.

Airways International CEO Sharon Cooke says the collaboration enables Airways and MITRE to combine their expertise on projects and developments such as airspace design and procedures, air traffic research and development, air traffic safety data analytics, and aviation solution development – creating tangible value for customers by improving airspace efficiency and increasing the number of aircraft movements.

“We’re pleased to be continuing our association with MITRE,” Ms Cooke says. “Our organisations have a great deal of experience and expertise that we can share for the mutual benefit of the aviation sector in this region. The success of our partnership is a great platform to build upon for the next five years.”

“Working with Airways, MITRE is committed to delivering the full depth of our technical capabilities to ensure the resiliency of the global aerospace system. This collaboration with Airways will focus on defining the systems and operations of the future as we work toward global harmonisation,” notes Kerry Buckley, MITRE Vice President and Director of the Center for Advanced Aviation System Development.
