AirMap selected to provide UTM services to India’s first BVLOS trials

16/07/2020

AirMap, the leading digital airspace and automation company serving the drone economy, has been selected by India’s Ministry of Civil Aviation to provide Unmanned Aircraft System (UAS) Traffic Management (UTM) services to the nation’s first beyond visual line of sight (BVLOS) trials.

AirMap will participate in four consortia that will test real-world BVLOS use cases and provide insights to the Ministry of Civil Aviation on how to safely enable BVLOS operations. AirMap will serve as UTM provider, offering a common, real-time operational picture of low altitude airspace to trial participants, as well as digital services for situational awareness, air traffic control (ATC) coordination, flight tracking, and deconfliction, to the following projects:

Together with the Dunzo Air consortium, AirMap will trial drone delivery operations outside of Bengaluru as part of Dunzo’s foray into drone logistics and transportation.

As part of the ClearSky consortium, AirMap will test food deliveries near the National Capital Region in partnership with Indian restaurant aggregator and food delivery start-up Zomato and its drone arm TechEagle Innovation.

AirMap will trial BVLOS inspections together with Reliance-backed drone manufacturer Asteria Aerospace.

Together with Honeywell and Dhaksha Unmanned Systems, AirMap will test multiple use cases, including land surveys and delivery operations, outside of Chennai.

“Safe BVLOS operations are essential to drone enablement at scale,” said Ayush Singhal, AirMap’s Director of Business Development, APAC. “AirMap is honored to participate in these trials, which are key to unlocking airspace and enabling safe commercial drone operations in India.”

AirMap is a regular participant in drone enablement and research projects globally and has participated in numerous trials for BVLOS and other complex operations, including the San Diego IPP, NASA’s TCL4 trials, NASA’s UAS Traffic Management Pilot Program (UPP), Northeast UAS Airspace Integration Research Alliance (NUAIR), the European SESAR JU GOF USPACE trials, and Matternet’s commercial BVLOS flights in Switzerland.
