When

Monday 8 December

11:45-13:00

Session overview

Weather remains one of the most unpredictable and disruptive factors in aviation operations. This session will set the stage with an overview of the challenges and guiding principles behind weather phenomena and forecasting. The speakers in this session will share:

  • How meteorological science and information can be transformed into practical, user-oriented decision-making tools for aviation stakeholders;
  • The strengths and limitations of current forecasting capabilities, such as Numerical Weather Prediction (NWP) and nowcasting, and their implications for air traffic operations;
  • How weather phenomena translate into real operational challenges to air traffic flow, grounding the science in the practical realities of Air Traffic Management (ATM).
