Panel Discussion: From Measurement to Momentum What Safety Culture Benchmarking is Teaching us about ANSPs

When

Session overview

Overview:
For the first time, ANSPs around the world have been able to look at safety culture not in isolation, but in comparison to other regions, operational environments, and organisational profiles. CANSO’s global Safety Culture Benchmarking initiative has created a new perspective and we’re just beginning to learn what this means for improvement.

This panel moves beyond looking at survey data itself and focuses on what it means. What patterns are emerging? How does national culture influence safety culture? What do we have in common? Where can ANSPs make real progress by learning from each other and where are blind spots persisting? Most importantly, how can benchmarking shift from a diagnostic exercise to a catalyst for learning, adaptation, and safer operations?

Panelists will reflect on practical insights from recently carried out surveys the benchmarking results and discuss how safety culture lays the foundation for resilience, transformation, and performance in an increasingly complex ATM environment. The discussion will also look ahead, outlining how the CANSO Safety Culture programme is evolving — from smarter analytics to tools that help organisations turn insight into action.

Session Objectives:
• A practical understanding of how safety culture matters in day-to-day operational decision-making
• Why strong safety culture is essential for navigating change, growth, and system complexity in ANSPs
• Key insights and global patterns emerging from benchmarking data
• A preview of what’s next: enhanced digital dashboards, implementation support, and a growing community of practice for shared learning across ANSPs
