CANSO/ACI Runway Safety Checklist

Runway safety is a shared responsibility at the operational level of an airport.

This checklist was developed to support structure and meaningful conversations among airport staff, air navigation service provider staff and operators at each airport. Its purpose is to strengthen existing good practice and help us become even safer.

The checklist addresses the prevention of runway incursions and runway excursions, the integrated operation of multiple service providers, effective runway maintenance and clear safety communication across stakeholders. It also promotes learning from safety events and experiences, recognising that continuous learning is central to maintaining a safe runway environment.
