CANSO Safety Culture Dashboard

The CANSO Safety Culture Dashboard is a new industry gold standard for measuring and improving safety maturity. Combining a rigorous and validated 16-question survey with workshops, global benchmarking capabilities, and tangible next steps for improvements, the CANSO Safety Culture Dashboard promises to be an important tool in delivering a positive safety culture to your ANSP.

What is it?
The CANSO Safety Culture Dashboard is a service available to every ANSP, with extra benchmarking capabilities for those who are CANSO members. The core product is a set of 16 questions designed to probe safety culture maturity across four quadrants: Ground-Up Safety Responsibility; Generating A Feeling of Healthy Unease; Employees ask Questions and Act; and Open Honest Conversations about Safety.
The survey data is securely hosted on the CANSO dashboard and de-identified before publication, building a global database of safety maturity.
Beyond the core survey product, additional support is available for survey onboarding, rollout, data gathering, and analysis. Workshops from the Safety Culture Assessment Team are available to take the data and turn it into practical next steps. If requested, additional survey questions are also possible, though they will not form a part of the benchmarked data.
Three tiers of services are available. They are:

Which Tier Should I Choose?
In Tier 1 (Core Survey), we give you the 16 core questions, including benchmarking for CANSO members, but otherwise the survey is hosted and data managed by the ANSP.
This tier is suitable for mature CANSO members who are curious about benchmarking and want a rapid check on their organisational safety culture, but do not need further support.
In Tier 2, the 16 core questions are complemented by workshops and data analysis, but the survey is still hosted and distributed internally. Results are exported to the Safety Team and analysed for next steps. Workshops follow a set format, considering practical methods to foster a safety culture in an ANSP. If the ANSP is a CANSO member, the final dataset will be de-identified and published on the Kaleidoscope dashboard.
This tier is suitable for ANSPs with capacity to conduct their own surveys, but lacking the resources to analyse the data and run the workshops internally.
For Tier 3, the whole process is hosted and managed by the Safety Team through Kaleidoscope. This software offers real-time data collection and visualisation and AI sentiment analysis, to produce powerful insights. The process includes onboarding, survey readiness prep, data analysis, tailored workshops, one-to-one support for safety leadership, and more.
This tier is suitable for ANSPs looking for any or all of: a seamless survey process to avoid the difficulties of setup and management; deep analysis of data to uncover hidden correlations; tailored workshops with practical next steps; and consultations with senior leadership to facilitate safety culture.

Methodology
The CANSO Safety Culture Benchmarking Programme is based upon a standard survey method methodological approach. 16 questions from the original Eurocontrol Safety Culture Survey were selected in 2021 by Austro Control and Skyguide based on their validity (ability to demonstrate a predictive importance towards Safety Culture) and their ability to map to four key quadrants of safety culture.
The survey is augmented by additional workshops, either run internally with material for guidance or delivered by the Safety Culture Assessment Team. In the workshops and subsequent discussions, a range of interventions will be identified to encourage a safety culture where it is weakest. Year on year, the survey can be repeated to assess the effectiveness of each intervention.
