Mark Airspace World on your calendar

01/02/2023

Airspace World 2023 will be taking place 8-10 March, 2023 at Palexpo, Geneva.

Air Traffic Management’s new global exhibition and conference – Airspace World – is already shaping up to be the biggest event the sector has ever seen.

The meeting – which has Indra and Thales as platinum sponsors – will welcome some 10,000 air traffic professionals, 200-plus exhibitors and over 60 speakers. Its unrivalled scope and size will not only showcase the global ATM technology landscape but provide the inspiration that will transform global skies. Organised exclusively by CANSO, the association’s Executive Summit will take place the day before on 7 March.

Keynote speakers and theatre content back up this ambition to inspire transformation in ATM. Airspace World Executive Summit keynote speaker, Shaesta Waiz, is President of the Dreams Soar charity and, in 2017, became the youngest woman to fly solo around the world in a single-engine aircraft. Willie Walsh, IATA’s Director General, will also be among the panellists at the Summit.

Theatres, meanwhile, will provide an exciting array of content. The themes and sponsors of the theatres are:

FREQUENTIS THEATRE:
Delivering technologies for a safer world

This theatre aims to provide a showcase for the innovative solutions that deliver safety improvements, enhanced efficiencies, increased sustainability and capacity. Speakers will share not only ideas but also tackle the need for speedy implementation.

FABEC OPS THEATRE:
Delivering future operations

This theatre will hear from speakers on the way airspace is being structured to make journeys quicker, cleaner and quieter. This includes performance-based navigation, airspace modernisation, managing arrivals and flexible use of airspace.

WING THEATRE:
Delivering an integrated airspace for the future

The airspace of the future will host new generations of users, from autonomous drones and eVTOL taxis at lower levels to high-altitude platforms, supersonic airliners and space tourist vehicles. This theatre will host speakers from a wide variety of sectors including space, urban air mobility, drone delivery and surveillance, un-crewed traffic management, eVTOL, vertiports, ANSPs and more.

SUSTAINABILITY THEATRE:
Delivering a sustainable future

It is critical that the industry takes tangible actions to minimise emissions. Presentations within this theatre will explore how to improve the efficiency of our skies to reduce aviation’s environmental impact in the near to mid-term.

A fifth theatre will be solely managed by SESAR.

Beyond World ATM Congress

Airspace World marks a major change in the global ATM calendar and replaces World ATM Congress now that CANSO’s agreement with ATCA has come to an end.

The new event will redefine the customer, exhibitor and visitor experience. The location – Palexpo, close to Geneva Airport – will play a key role, offering more than 22,000sqm of space. Aside from its easy accessibility and world-class facilities, Palexpo also offers a sustainable way forward.

CANSO’s Director General, Simon Hocquard, notes that the centre has Switzerland’s second largest photovoltaic solar power station on its roof, with 15,000 solar panels. “Electricity used on site originates from 100% natural sources and 100% of food waste is also recycled and converted into biogas,” he adds.

CANSO will also hold an Awards ceremony at Airspace World in conjunction with Air Traffic Management magazine. Award categories include:

  • Airspace Management
  • Collaboration
  • Innovation
  • Shaping our Future Skies
  • Sustainability.

The awards are open to all relevant stakeholders and will acknowledge pioneering concepts, initiatives, and significant achievements by leaders and organisations in the air traffic management industry.

Shaping our future skies

The real value in Airspace World, however, resides in its commitment to align with CANSO’s delivery of “Shaping our Future Skies”.

The event will bring together the worlds of manned and unmanned aviation so that all stakeholders can collectively work on the blueprint for seamless airspace and showcase the technology and services required to get there.

“We are developing an exciting programme of events, aimed at fully supporting the future and development of air navigation service industries, and drawing new and existing audiences into a space which is conducive to business,” concludes Hocquard. “At the core of the event will sit the exhibition, our sponsors, partners and Thought Leadership engagements. The event will become a focal point for the industry and its ecosystem and will be the place to meet, network and do business.”
