Infina and CANSO launch 50th ANSP Learning Portal Course

05/06/2024

The ANSP Learning Portal (ALP), produced in partnership between CANSO and Infina, has reached a significant milestone with the launch of its 50th course, just a year after the partnership was established.

The 50th course in the portal is also the sixth course in the Runway Safety series and presents footage identifying the risks from the perspective of a pilot or vehicle driver as they navigate the airport. This helps air traffic controllers in their understanding of how instructions are received from a pilot or vehicle driver’s point of view.

By completing the course, students will:

  • Identify the risks on the runway pavement
  • Identify best practices and techniques to reduce mistakes on the runway pavement

Speaking about Infina’s continued engagement with the international marketplace, the company’s President, Sue E. Meeks, said: “I am thrilled to offer Air Navigation Services Providers our 50th course hosted on our learning platform (ALP) as part of the Runway Safety series.

“We share our safety passion with CANSO and are committed to high standards of courseware quality. The best practices and techniques offered to the ATCOs from our six latest Runway Safety microlearning refresher courses are not only timely, but critical to runway safety.”

Other recent courses added to the Runway Safety Series courses include:

Protect the Pavement. Three microlearning courses, of which:

Part 1: Vehicle Deviation Scenario presents a scenario showing how quickly the vehicle went from being clear of the safety area to being in the path of the departing aircraft. An accident was averted only because of the actions of an ATCO.

Part 2: Techniques looks at how ATCOs can reduce their own mistakes, while helping pilots and vehicle operators reduce theirs.

Part 3: Pilot Deviation Scenario presents a comprehensive runway scenario to demonstrate lessons from Parts 1 and 2 and shows what the ATCO did well and the things that could be done better.

Students will:

  • Identify the risks on the runway pavement
  • Identify best practices and techniques to reduce mistakes on the runway pavement

Late Changes to ATC Clearances is made up of two microlearning courses.

Part 1: FMS Scenario presents a scenario showing the difficulties pilots face with late changes to ATC clearances. It also includes information about the constraints of the onboard flight management system.

Part 2: Best Practices presents best practices to avoid unsafe situations when clearances are issued that are late or untimely.

 Students will:

  • Identify the risks of late changes to ATC clearances
  • Identify the constraints of the flight management system
  • Identify best practices to avoid unsafe situations when clearances are issued that are late or untimely

ALP’s course topics range from Emergencies, Weather, Communication, Voluntary Reporting Programme, Human Factors, For ATCOs from Pilots, and Runway Safety. With the launch of the latest six courses in the Runway Safety series, accessing and learning based on ICAO training topics has never been easier. All the courses are now available on the ANSP Learning Portal (ALP).
