Important alert – fraudulent emails purporting to be from CANSO – September 2025

We have been made aware of more fraudulent emails being sent to some of our members, purporting to come from CANSO staff. These messages may look genuine and may include wording such as: “Dear Valued Member, we have sent the 2025 membership invoice; did you receive it? If not, kindly revert back to us to resend the 2025 membership. Awaiting your reponse. Treat Urgently.”
These messages are not from CANSO. They are part of a phishing scam designed to trick you into making a payment to criminals.
What to do:
- Do not reply to these emails.
- Do not click on any links or open attachments.
- Do not make any payment based on these instructions.
- Report the email to fraud.reporting@canso.org.
How to recognise genuine CANSO emails:
- Official CANSO communications are always sent from an @canso.org email address, never from public domains such as Gmail, Hotmail, Outlook or AOL.
- Be aware, however, that criminals are increasingly sophisticated and may attempt to “spoof” email addresses so that messages appear to come from @canso.org. For this reason, always double-check the actual sending address and do not automatically rely only on the display name.
Here are more tips on how to spot, and avoid falling victim to, a fraudulent email
