Regional Focus: Future of Air Navigation in Africa: Part 2
There are many considerations for future navigation systems in Africa, especially space-based navigation systems. However, the question of whether the region needs these systems is yet to be answered. Furthermore, of the two leading technologies, satellite-based augmentation systems (SBAS) and ground-based augmentation systems (GBAS), what are the uses and benefits for Africa?
To discuss these questions and more, CANSO and ATNS are proud to have presented a two-part Future of Air Navigation in Africa webinar series.
We explored the future of African navigation systems with a wide range of aviation stakeholders. The sessions featured keynote speakers, presentations of technical papers, roundtable and panel discussions, and question and answer sessions with the audience.
Part 2
This session included speakers from ASECNA, the East Africa Community, and the Airline Pilots Association. They gave their views on the technology available to African ATM providers. This was followed by a roundtable discussion on satellite-based navigation systems.
We also heard keynote addresses from Mr. Tefera Mekonnen, Secretary General of AFCAC, and Mr. Stephen Creamer, Director Air Navigation Bureau, ICAO.
