Regional Focus: Future of Air Navigation in Africa: Part 1
There are many considerations for future navigation systems in Africa, especially space-based navigation systems. However, the question of whether the region needs these systems is yet to be answered. Furthermore, of the two leading technologies, satellite-based augmentation systems (SBAS) and ground-based augmentation systems (GBAS), what are the uses and benefits for Africa?
To discuss these questions and more, CANSO and ATNS are proud to have presented a two-part Future of Air Navigation in Africa webinar series.
At these we explored the future of African navigation systems with a wide range of aviation stakeholders. The sessions featured keynote speakers, presentations of technical papers, roundtable and panel discussions, and question and answer sessions with the audience.
This session was opened by Boni Dibate, CANSO’s Director, Africa Affairs, and will feature a series of case studies from the FAA, EUROCONTROL, AEROTHAI and DSNA, on the benefits and challenges of their ATM technologies, and a panel discussion. We also heard from Mr Dumisani Sangweni, CEO of ATNS, and r Barry Kashambo, Regional Director, ICAO East and South Africa.
