Regional Focus: Future of Air Navigation in Africa: Part 1
There are many considerations for future navigation systems in Africa, especially space-based navigation systems. However, the question of whether the region needs these systems is yet to be answered. Furthermore, of the two leading technologies, satellite-based augmentation systems (SBAS) and ground-based augmentation systems (GBAS), what are the uses and benefits for Africa?
To discuss these questions and more, CANSO and ATNS are proud to have presented a two-part Future of Air Navigation in Africa webinar series.
At these we explored the future of African navigation systems with a wide range of aviation stakeholders. The sessions featured keynote speakers, presentations of technical papers, roundtable and panel discussions, and question and answer sessions with the audience.
Part 1
This session was opened by Boni Dibate, CANSOâs Director, Africa Affairs, and will feature a series of case studies from the FAA, EUROCONTROL, AEROTHAI and DSNA, on the benefits and challenges of their ATM technologies, and a panel discussion. We also heard from Mr Dumisani Sangweni, CEO of ATNS, and r Barry Kashambo, Regional Director, ICAO East and South Africa.
