CANSO Academy: Introduction to Datalink: Part 2 – Planning and Implementation Readiness

As Datalink becomes more and more prevalent in the Air Traffic Management industry, our two-part webinar exploried the implications and uses of the technology.

Having introduced and discussed Datalink Operations in Part 1, this webinar expanded that conversation to look at ATSP planning for Datalink operations, requirements and interoperability standards, and implementation readiness.

Once again moderated by Lisa Bee, Director of Air Traffic Services, Inmarsat, and Chair of the CANSO Data Link Implementation Task Force, and with contributions from Shelley Bailey, International Coordination Air Traffic Specialist, NAV CANADA, and Ricardo De Sousa, CNS Strategy Lead, NATS, our interactive session guided attendees through the steps their organisations must make to get the most from Datalink technology.

We discussed the various steps needed when planning to implement Datalink, such as defining your concept of operations, and coordination with stakeholders, and take a look at system preparation requirements. The team also looked at operational capabilities, services, specifications, and mandates, and the challenges surrounding implementation.
