Driving action on our collective people challenges

CANSO Human Recourse Workgroup Members at a Welcome Reception in Warsaw hosted by the PANSA CEO, Magdalena Jaworska-Mackowiak

The CANSO Human Resources Workgroup (HRWG) met last November in Warsaw, Poland, to give participants an opportunity to discuss common issues.

Recruitment was a major topic at the meeting. Participants shared efforts on developing an employer value proposition and new employment advertising strategies to ensure effective attraction of sufficient candidates and to improve retention to meet workforce requirements. Feedback from employees and generational changes in employee expectations are necessitating adjustments in how ANSPs recruit and train, as well as career planning.

A series of webinars are planned in March and April to provide an opportunity for the broader CANSO membership to engage on these important issues. The first webinar, held in collaboration with Firstfruits and scheduled for March, will explore generational changes in attitudes towards work and how aviation can be attractive to Gen-Z. The second, in April, will explore specific success stories in new employment advertising strategies, including creative approaches to messaging and channel use and the results they are delivering. Keep an eye on the CANSO events page to register to participate in the upcoming webinars.

The Warsaw meeting also saw discussions on best practices in candidate testing and selection, potential applications and legal implications regarding the use of artificial intelligence by human resources departments. Meeting participants also reviewed benchmarking data on compensation, hours of work, training and other workforce demographics that was gathered as part of a data collection exercise earlier in the year. An external speaker provided an interesting and engaging session on leadership.

A heartfelt thank you to PANSA for hosting the meeting and providing an opportunity for CANSO members to share information on approaches that are seeing success in addressing our common challenges.

The CANSO HRWG will provide an ongoing forum for human resource professionals to share on these and other topics. If you are interested more information regarding the work of the HRWG or to join its efforts please contact strategy@canso.org
