Gen. Sérgio Rodrigues Pereira Bastos Junior

General Sérgio Rodrigues Pereira Bastos Junior is the Director-General of the Brazilian Department of Airspace Control (DECEA), the organization responsible for providing air navigation services and regulating Brazil’s Airspace Control System (SISCEAB). In this role, he leads the provision of air navigation services across the Brazilian airspace and oversees the regulatory, operational, and technological structure that supports civil and military aviation activities in the country, in alignment with ICAO standards and global air navigation objectives.

An Aviator General Officer of the Brazilian Air Force, General Sérgio Bastos has nearly four decades of military experience in air operations, leadership, airspace management, and defense administration. He holds an MBA in Science and Technology from the Fluminense Federal University (UFF), as well as executive management specialization studies at the Fundação Paulista de Tecnologia e Educação. Throughout his career, he has held key operational, command, and strategic positions within the Brazilian Air Force and the national defense structure. His assignments include command positions in fighter aviation units and major air bases, leadership roles at DECEA and CISCEA, service as Deputy Defense and Air Attaché and later Chief of the Brazilian Aeronautical Commission in Washington, D.C., as well as senior leadership appointments including Commander-General for Personnel of the Brazilian Air Force (COMGEP), Vice-Director of DECEA, President of CISCEA, and Director of Education of the Air Force.

A highly experienced military pilot, he has accumulated more than 3,000 flight hours, including approximately 2,400 hours in fighter aircraft and 1,400 hours in the A-1 (AMX) aircraft platform.
