Ben Girard is a seasoned aviation leader with over 35 years of experience in air traffic management, operational leadership, and organisational transformation. As General Manager of Air Traffic Services at Airways New Zealand, he oversees all operational units across the country, ensuring the safe and efficient management of New Zealand’s airspace.

Prior to joining Airways, Ben started his Air Traffic Controller career at NAV CANADA, where he later held senior leadership roles including Chief of Operations, where he was responsible for national air traffic operations.

Throughout his career, he has spearheaded major safety and innovation initiatives, such as the implementation of space-based ADS-B surveillance, RPAS Traffic Management, Digital Aerodrome Air Traffic Services and Fatigue Risk Management System.

Ben is a strong advocate for safety, operational excellence, and collaboration, bringing a strategic approach to air traffic management that integrates emerging technologies with frontline operational needs.
