HPM SoE – A How to Guide and Why it Matters

When

Monday 24 August

11:30-12:00

Session overview

Overview:
ATM is, and will continue to be, a human centred activity. Despite increased automation, potential uses of AI, and an increasing number of support systems, humans remain at the centre of aviation. Our aircraft are operated by pilots, our engineers maintain our systems, our controllers direct traffic, and all are supported by hundreds of other key roles. More than this, the on-going increases in traffic, airspace complexity, and thus workload, on all these roles make it imperative to understand and manage human capabilities and limitations. There is no aviation without its people, so it is imperative that we understand how to make the most of our people while ensuring their continued health, motivation, and capabilities.

Session Objectives:
• Present CANSO’s vision for Human Performance Management
• Introduce the on-going work to develop and published a ‘How to guide’ for HPM SoE and why it is needed
• Explore what it means to have an HPMS and its benefits
• Share initial outcomes and practical steps towards building Human Performance Management Systems
