CANSO Academy: Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) Interference: Intentional GNSS Jamming and Spoofing
Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) signals are vulnerable to interference due to their extremely low power, making them susceptible to various forms of interference.
This interference can occur unintentionally from natural phenomena like atmospheric scintillation and solar activity, or it can be deliberate, such as jamming or spoofing. Real-world incidents of deliberate interference that result in disruption to GNSS have been rapidly rising.
This webinar discussed the impacts to aircraft operations and air traffic services resulting from deliberate GNSS interference, as well as mitigation strategies for both.
Information was also be provided on related conclusions from the 14th ICAO Air Navigation Conference, and Aireon discussed the use of its global dataset and monitoring tools to identify abnormalities in the GNSS signals to an aircraft.
